Hey /out/

I'm a geology major, so I obviously love going out and looking for rocks whenever I have some free time on the weekends. My question is how to find new places to go, whether for rock hunting or just getting out and exploring. How do you find new spots that aren't overcrowded?

Get a canoe. In my experience, if you can't get somewhere by burning gas, no one goes there. Lots of good cliffs & outcrops along the waterways too.

Any of those will get you far away from people.

I live in California. Most populous state, some of the most popular national parks, not even counting the endless hordes of chinks and krauts who are always visiting them. And yet I still find it quite simple to avoid others. Protip: if it’s below 8000’ or within 3 miles of a developed highway and not permit-based, it’s a no-go.
