Hey /out/casts,
I'm a poorfag and want to go camping.
I have a tent and everything to stay dry and warm.
Do you have any ideas how to make your own cookingware (pot, cup, burner) or anything really cheap I could use to substitut?

Salvation Army/Goodwill always has a big wall of pots and pans. Often you can score some really high quality old shit for a buck or two. What kind of "poorfag" doesn't know this already

Already got the penny stove made, works a treat. Will probably build the rest of the kit this week sometime. I use HEET for the fuel, you could also use denatured alcohol or moonshine or naphtha.

Check thrift stores. I've seen $60< hiking packs for $5 at my local one. For cooking, home-made twig stove and some stainless steel thingy will work.

Get one of these things from Ikea, make the holes a bit larger, fill it with wood and birch bark, light it up, put a pot on it, cook. If you live in an area with lots of forests you will always find enough firewood to cook your food. Works fine for me.

So very true. I got a 2 Williams Sonoma cast iron frying pans, a pot, and a dutch oven at Goodwill last year. Each one was 5 dollars except the dutch oven was 8. $23 dollars wasnt too bad for roughly $400 worth of pots

I live in Germany, at least in my small city there aren't any Goodwill-like stores. But I could go to a fleamarket and buy some cheep pot, so that could work.

Also if you live in Germany make sure you check out Decathlon. I bought most of my outdoor stuff in dedicated outdoor stores. Know that I know about Decathlon I could have saved shitloads of money. I got a fucking fleece pullover for 4€ when it was on sale. They also have great cooking kits.

Make sure you get some cheep shit first and see if you really need more expansive stuff. Take few things and expand from there. Just spend a night on a camping place and see if it worked out. If not just order a pizza. We are in Germany and not in the third world where you cannot get a pizza delivery anytime you want ;).

Thrift shops, salvation army, goodwill, and antique stores usually have cheap ass stuff. The latter will be better for durability usually, but not as cheap as the cheap gear from the former.

As for making a burner, some tin cans and pliers should do the trick. Just google up "tin can stove" or "hobo stove."
