The first step is to acknowledge you will never totally replace the modern world without reverting to 18th century style living/life expectancy. Shit happens. Infections, medical emergencies, etc happen. Starting a fire every night can be done with a bow, but lets be honest, modern society has far easier more reliable ways even if that means a twice a year trip to a town/city. Hunting and farming are absolute requirements. Animal Husbandry is helpful but not absolutely required. No one man, or even a small group (less than 5 people) can do everything needed to survive long term with anything resembling comfortable living. Define your goals, be realistic, and form a plan around that. A lot of homesteaders and off grid guys simply fail because they were extremely unrealistic at the start

independence is a stupid goal. You aren't actually dependent in the first place, you just choose the easier way because it provides more freedom.

include "infrastructures".

reducing "goods and infrastructures" does not mean totally avoiding them.

just have a laugh at those people snapping when some infrastructure is temporarily unavailable.

Energy: do you totally depend on something, or did you install a few solar panels to always grant your minimum needs?

Communications: do you rely only on your cellphone and internet?

Food shortage: do you have at least a week of water and food? Do you refresh your supplies?

I'm not a prepper, but I was the only one in town who didn't get hit by a few incidents.

You make a great point about the tradeoffs but in all four of those cases, the independent option gives the greatest freedom.

There is absolutely more freedom in doing everything yourself. The tradeoff is as you state, you don't get the benefits of being strongly integrated with capitalism.
