Going on a 1500 mile bicycle ride. I need a light weight tent that's really easy to set up. Any suggestions? I'm sure this has been asked numerous times. Since I'm going to be setting up and taking down very frequently, i want one super easy to set up.

For my piddling little 700 mile ride, I just used the smallest free-standing tent I could find-- which luckily was rather cheap, too. While lighter and smaller is better, tourrides aren't a race, so I don't see the need to pay for /extreme/ reductions for that extra km/h.

Regardless, you will need the freestanding bit-- however the next photo is an idea...

Tarptent contrail!
I did a 900km ride on my bike and that thing is just perfect, weights 800g, idiot proof setup and packs up small.

As I have one allow me to chip in.

I'm 6'3" & touch the inner at both ends although not to the point it hits the outer & leeches condensation

Closer to 1.5kg
>lose some pegs and it'll lighten
it also won't stand up to wind as well, choose lighter ti pegs & poles

All that being said I'd highly recommend it for the price & weight

It's definitely light, easy to set up, and while it provides minimal protection, it can still be used in some freezing temperatures, and will protect you from wind, rain and insects.

And it's definitely comfy enough in warm weather.

Having used both, I don't think you can go wrong with either. They're both fantastic little tents and would suit your needs perfectly OP. However, the Gelert Solo is small as fuck, you'd struggle to get a rucksack inside or under the flysheet so if you're taking a lot of gear you may want to consider the mongoose instead as it's a 2 man (although only comfortable for 1)

It's a great little tent for spacious 1 man use. Really simple to pitch as well. Only has 2 poles, one at the front and one at the back that go horizontally across the inner mesh. Then the outer fly just goes on top of that. You can easily pitch it in 5 minutes and would be perfect for OP imo.

He's not going to luck out and have fine/warm weather the entire trip, it's a Bicycle Touring Law.

I have both a solo and mongoose.

I use the solo for hiking and mongoose for biking.

I would go so far as say the extra comfort in a mongoose will defo be pronounce on a long bike tour.

Grey bag on top is the tent, packs up nice and small. I really can recommend the contrail, setup takes ~2 minutes and its an excellent little 3 season tent.

I think it'd be a good fit with some room to spare. With one person, there's a ton of space inside and could easily fit a German Shepherd. There's also a decently sized porch so you could fit him in there as well.

Just a thought, and one that may already have been mentioned (haven't read thread)...

A tarp is light, and you can use your bike to hold it up at one end, which will mean that if anyone tries to steal you bike you'll notice it.

Fair enough, ask a dumb question...

What I meant was, is this a sensible thing to do with a hammock? Do you just wrap yourself in it on the ground? If it works, then I can just use a hammock all the time, rather then going for a bivy when in non-forest terrain.
