What's the minimum equipment I need to hunt deer? How do I get started? Sorry if this question has been asked a million times here already, don't visit this board too often.

You need something that can legally and ethically kill a deer (rifle, shotgun, bow)

You need to be proficient with it.

You need licenses and probably hunter education to be legal. Read all the regs where you are going to hunt.

You need a place where you can hunt that has deer and a way to get there.

That is the bare ass minimum.

Just start with squirrel. Why do all of you autists want a deer on babby's first huntin trip? Christ, I have to say this in every thread like this that pops up, it should be in the sticky by now. Small forest game first! It's probably in season right now wherever you are. Take your 12 gauge shotgun, buy a case of light target loads, and go shoot some squirrel and/ or birds until you know what you are doing. Then when you actually know what you are doing, buy a box of slugs and shoot a deer.

First animal I shot was a moose, but I don't hunt solo, I go with other more experienced hunters. I would advice other noobs to ask family, friends etc. who hunt about joining them.

12 gauge single shot can be bought for like $100, become proficent at shooting slugs with it, and moving quietly while /out/. I agree with >>1113750 you should do small game first. There are grouse where I live and its a very enjoyable hunting for your first time

Gutting and quartering the deer is no fun if you are alone and have never done it before. Very likely to walk away empty handed and get discouraged. If we're talking about parking the pickem up truck 100 yards form the treehouse and instantgraming on the phone until some poor buck wanders into the feeder, then I guess it isn't a problem. pack light with something you can overfill. get the best binoculars you can afford, stick to 8x42. gps is a good idea. don't skimp on good footwear and go with an experienced deer hunter.
