Making a vegetable garden

So I want to make a vegetable garden, and being that Australia has such harsh summers, the likely hood of my plants dying again is high.

I'm thinking that doing it down this side of the house is good, but I'm not really sure where to get started. The dirt is no good for growing in, so I'm thinking of getting planter boxes and doing it that way.

My question is, should I put all my planter boxes pushed right up against the fence, and maybe have some against the wall too, or should I just put planter boxes in the middle of the walk way?

Not an expert by any means, but I'd look into the shade/sun preferences of the plants you're thinking of growing and get some sense of hours of direct sunlight that the areas your considering get.

Planning to attempt similar stuff myself and thinking no-dig beds with mulch should hold water better than backyard dirt plus compost with no mulch.

I use Rooster Booster for my nitrogen content, shredded paper to build my soil carbon levels and drip lines on a retic timer that waters three times a day but just for a few minutes at a time. This maintains soil moisture during our hot as fuck days. Try easy shit like corn, once the corn is knee high plant cucumbers or beans around it's base. The beans will climb the corn.
Other shit you can try is capsicum and eggplant, they are hardy as fuck. Good old tomatoes do well in the fuck off heat. Water is key and building carbon content in the soil helps retain moisture and nutrients.
Don't put all your time and effort into building fucking garden beds and shit. Chuck the rooster booster on about a bag to the square metre and turn the soil over to get the shit through the top 100mm or so. Don't bury the manure too deep or it will be lost.
You may want to consider a green manure crop or legume crop first to get things moving and improve soil microbial activity. What area are you in cunt?

Local council here in gero lets you take as much mulch from the tip as you can load into your busted arse ute as you want. Lots of mulch, pea straw, hay, shredded paper, manure and a handful of ljme maybe to get things crankin and heads of spading the soil over.Definetly go the green manure crop.
