Evening sc/out/s, looks like I just got kicked out of the house. Rather than turn this experience into something more awful than it already is, I've decided to go with it and take a shot at hiking and living off the land for the time being.
I've got a job lined up in roughly two weeks and ~$100 in cash. My gear right now includes an ultralight camping hammock & sleeping bag, a tarp, a few pairs of clothing, bear spray, a survival handbook, a hatchet/ axe, a small knife, rope, a flashlight, mosquito net, a lighter, and a medical kit. I'm a very experienced day hiker, but have little practical knowledge of tenting or overnight sleeping.
My plan right now is to construct a shelter using local clearcut materials for the first few days to break myself in, after which I plan to start rucking about into one of the neighboring towns The terrain is Vancouver island (Canada), a temperate rainforest. I'd never be too far from civilization
So. do you think I can make it? Any advice or general information would be greatly appreciated
