I went to New York this spring during the "snow-storm" where everything shut down and trash was piling up in the streets - seemed like a huge joke to me.

Then again these customers are probably not very /out/ themselves, probably from the south or something? I know most americans who come here are on some sort of trip to "see their heritage" or something because their ancestors were scandinavian, but I think they mostly gather around minnesota and stuff - that area gets snow, right?

This guy was awesome, showed us plenty of videos and pictures of him out in the field interacting with nature, running missions, etc etc. Passed a slow day quite well.

I know a few people working at outdoors shops here. For the most part, it's selling the most expensive jackets they have, the kind behind lock and key, to Chinese students who don't know how to layer.
They're fucking professional ski/outdoors jackets you fucks, you don't need them for the ten minutes at most you'll spend outside. Wear a fucking sweater over a t-shirt, get some fucking long johns, and then really any jacket will be enough.
I see them wearing those jackets in fucking March.

I fucking hate these fags. You only have to shut up and take their money, I have chase them out of the park at least once a month.

No you can't cut down trees.
No you can't build potentially lethal traps in a public park.
No you can't fucking camp here, the park closes at dusk.

My particular favorites are the ones who think they are some John Wayne type fuckers. Fucking threaten me with a knife, that's nice, Dave in the truck there has a shotgun with a hair trigger just waiting for you to try something. It's gotten to the point we have a strict "call the police" policy for these people because so many of them think they are fucking Rambo. We let it slide when its shit like a dad teaching his son how to set a rabbit snare, but last year we had a fucker building fucking bow and arrow traps all over the woods. We never did catch him but boy is it fun having to walk through 200 acres of woods looking for and disarming these traps.

Your hands can get extremely sweaty.

If your gloves are TOO hot you'll definitely sweat. You won't need pic related if it's only a slight chill outside. Climate and temperature can mean a great deal - If it's dry and your only fear is getting cold, a simple pair of wool gloves could work great. If its windy, you might want something that can take care of that.

Waterproof/goretex lined insulated gloves (especially lower end) will usually be the most sweaty ones.

Mittens are warmer than gloves, this is because your fingers have contact, and warm eachother. There are also "lobster"gloves, where you have one pocket for your thumb, and two for your fingers. Not as functional, but if you're doing things like skiing, or don't need to use all of your fingers it can be great.

And don't forget, you can also layer gloves! A thin wool liner with a mid-sized glove outside sometimes work wonders. When I served in the military I would mostly use wool liners inside thin leather gloves up until -15C without freezing.

$200 is the most you need to spend on a jacket for casual use, and that jacket will last for years. I still own a jacket that my parents got me, probably from fucking Walmart, when I was 14. I replaced it because it was ugly and unnecessary. I replaced it with a $220 wool knit/polar fleece jacket, which will last be probably a decade (it's too heavy to go hiking or something in, so it really won't suffer much wear). Trust me when I say that these Chinese students will not be staying here for a decade, and that they will not need that fancy down jacket, which will probably last them multiple decades, back home.

Tourists with too much money spend it on all the wrong stuff. There are students from Africa and the ME here that get along fine, because they know how to wear layers.

-good fit

$120 carhartt extreme weather jacket

-stiff very very stiff this jacket takes a extrememly long time to break into its like wearing a piece of cardboard literally just read online carhartt reviews
-insulation is just a bunch on nylon twine all twisted together....not necessarily a bad thing its cheap and tough and works
-weird fit made for short fat guys very boxy
-fuck this jacket is super stiff even after washing

I bought one a couple years ago and despite loving its aesthetics and toughness I can't really use it because weather doesn't really get cold enough here. I have only used it a couple times unfortunately since it's a great jacket.
