Where I live in the USA a, "yard," is an open area with nothing in it specifically or nothing that's permanently installed. Normally, that just means, "lawn," for most home owners where only grass grows. "Garden," means both small vegetable growing plot and flower/ornamental growing plot. "Farm," always means dedicated animal raising, vegetable growing, and/or cash crop and will be registered as a farm with the local/state/gov tax body, the monetary value of which must exceed $x amount, and/or be used in subsistence agriculture where a minimum % or all of the food the farmer/resident(s) eat comes from the farmland.
I run a ,"small farm," which is a legal term where I live. I raise/grow animals/crops amounting to no less than the monetary sum of what my state requires to be registered as a, "small farm".
