Mah nigga.

Pic totally related. It is my favorite axe. Came from an old lady whose barn my buddy tore down two years ago. Her husband bought it decades ago. You can tell that it just sat in the corner for a long time. The top is pretty pitted.

Cheap, try to buy them in store to check quality of handle. Also learning how to properly fit a new axe head to a handle is a good thing. Just means all you're really looking for is a good head; which can be bought at flee markets for a cheap price.

Pic is of an old axe head i bought for 10$, had a crack in it, but lasted for 5 years before breaking off.

I found two double bit axes, that seem to be in decent condition minus the handles, in my local dump when I was throwing shit away. Also found a 25 pound sledge and a splitting maul. So, best axe brand is free.

I find that the smol cheeks on those types of axes means that it comes loose easier because there's less metal in contact with the haft
