I need recommendations for an 85km section of trail in the UK. Preferably with easy access to an airport. I'll be flying up for the last weekend of October from Belgium and am looking for a nice UK /out/ experience. Anything has to be better than this sorry excuse for a countryside

If you want easy access to mountains, try Aberdeen airport then catch a bus from the Union Square bus centre to Braemar in Royal Aberdeenshire.
Plenty of trails up there that you could string together to make a good distance route, maybe bag a few munros while you're there too.
Braemar has good accomodations as your hub, also has a youth hostel.

What are you looking for in the UK exactly?

Then Scotland is your place m8. Inverness is also a useful access point to the Highlands but I've haven't been there much. I've mostly stuck to the Cairngorms around Braemar.

The Cairngorms is the primary spot I'm looking at. Is wild camping allowed there? Enough trees to hammock?

Wild camping is a yes. You will have to stay in the glens to find trees as the hills barely have any worth a hammock.

I know the Linn of Dee and Derry Lodge had plenty of good woodland about them. You're probably better off trying to find a bothy to bed down in though.

Western Highlands are better than the Cairngorms and are accessed more easily from Inverness but it’s all personal preference. If I were to do a long trek I’d do something like Dundonell to Glenfinnan but that’s probably a bit long.

Having said that, October is a pretty shit time of year to go proper /out/ in the UK so have backup plans in the event that you get rained on hard and camping becomes infeasible.

That Arizona trail is brutal. Also, Arizona is the same size in area as Great Britian I believe. But I bet it's much nicer to hike. 1/2 of Arizona is death environment.

Why is getting a train in Scotland to anywhere other than Balloch so fucking expensive? Looking at £100-200 for out/return each

71km of varied scenery and terrain. really stunning. gives you a great taste of scotland. you start in the ancient caledonian pine forests and then ascend up into the beautiful barren glens and lochs.

there's plenty of places to wild camp.
you don't need to stealth camp as wild camping is legal in scotland.
yes you stop in at a couple of villages. though i'd recommend taking a water filter so you don't need to carry a lot of water. just fill up from streams.
only bad part for me was there is a section where you have to walk about 3 miles on a road, which wasn't much fun.

Another option would be the Fisherfield 6, a circuit walk of a group of 6 munros in one of the remotest parts of the highlands, known as "The great wilderness". Though i wouldn't recommend this unless you have serious hillwalking experience.

I’d love to do this in winter staying at Shenavall, I think it must be one of the best mountain experiences in the country. Only problem is that to get anywhere south of the bothy you need to cross a stream which has been known to be as high as peoples’ waists and there’s no other way around.
