You walk a LOT and go up and down very much, I think I would struggle for sure.
But the trail is VERY well marked, the terrain is very very easy, there are people all the time on the trail, towns every couple days at most, tons of great designated camping spots, etc.
Okay, someone died, but this is related to the volume of people there, eventually someone unprepared or unlucky enough will die. That does not make the trail itself extreme.

I think OP would be interested in seeing how it is on a challenging environment, would be a very different experience that the AT was.
