They work much better on bigger gar (big longnose and alligator gar), unfortunately I'm stuck fishing drainage ditches for them and I get small longnose and average shortnose gar here.
Did get a surprise bowfin last weekend on one, I still can't believe he held onto it long enough to land him. 3lbs. Tons of fun on an 8wt and 1x tippet.
