Aus's "UHF CB" is like US's FRS/GMRS. Beyond that I don't know a whole lot about laws/licensing/legalities around UHF-CB.
I put a simplex+tone channel in, it's the one we usually use in our groups when we're riding.
It's one of the "shared" channels - i'm allowed up to 5W on it since I carry that license, and my radio will do 5W.
Other advantage is that everyone else's radios work on that freq/tone, since we radio-checked that at the trailhead. So if I fire my PLB, the rest of my group's radios will be on that channel searchers are (hopefully) trying to reach us on.
1/0 is a good channel to remember, usually used as a calling freq.
20/22 is another good one, sort of like marine-16 or cb-9; an "emergency" channel. There's a handful of GMRS repeaters around here on that channel/tone.
"9/11" is a really poor choice for emergency traffic, since it's part of the FRS-only allocation and you're limited to very low power.
