a few weeks ago a friend hit a seagull with a marble. it was on a 15 foot tall light and shot about 20 yards maybe 25
it died. flapped a little on the way down and landed face down in the water.
and for some reason there was a lot of hot peppers floating around there. like 100+ hot peppers

you need a decent one and not a kids toy

some in the marina and boat ramp
some along the edge of the river

My father worked as herdsman in his youth, he learned to use one of those.

I bought a cheap one from Walmart with the arm rest for squirrel hunting, and let me tell you it's not fucking easy. We couldn't even hit one, and the wind messed with our shots a lot.

I'll probably bring one with me to fuck around but I am not taking it seriously until I can get good.

Either you are way way too far away or the shot you are using is too lightweight. Use 11-12mm steel or lead. Yeah, you need lots of practice, but it really isn't difficult. Though, some people are more intuitive with shooting than others. I used to hit birds in flight all the time.

No. At least on the one I had, within half a year and less than 50 shots the rubber got so brittle that it tore.
The only advantage to slingshots is that they're compact. Blowpipes or crossbows have them beat in everthing else.

I've been fooling around with a cheap slingshot for a couple weeks and there's something bothering me related to mechanics

you know how some times you can make a clean wonderful shot that almost feels like it's magically propelling out of your whole body, and then there are shots where everything feels ugly, uncoordinated, and nasty?

well, what the fuck is the cause of this? I've been trying different shape/size rocks, different methods, angles, grabbing the rock instead of the band, etc and I can't for the life of me figure it out, is it just sheer luck, at least with a cheap slingshot?

Where I live, in BFE, you can find marbles everywhere. even back on the hills in the woods. Just start digging and within 30 mins you'll find one about 2-4 inches into the ground at most. They are all really old, USA, factory-made marbles from like 50-100 years ago. Some are made with uranium glass. It is pretty neat.

Get the scout, it takes any kind of bands, and you can shoot it TTF or OTT, and you can chang the bands very fast, if you are shooting with diferent ammunition.
I have this slingshot, and its also ver accurate.

You have to keep the forks parallel to your body, if the slingshot is twisted you will have an horrible shot. An try to use the same ammo.

It is true. But, he used a 50 pound draw "slingbow". Which is a slingshot that can use an arrow. In most places, all you need is a 40 pound draw on a typical bow to be able to hunt large game legally.

Tehre are several designs for slingbows. Some are purpose built specifically for arrows and nothing else. Those usually have a whisker biscuit instead of and open Y. Most of those are only for bowfishing instead of big game fishing simply due to the lower draw weight. Those usually have a fishing reel and line on them or a flashlight.

Just about any good slingshot with 9-12mm steel balls will kill small game including snakes. Stone and pebbles are a bit hit or miss, literally and figuratively.

Underrated weapon. Built one with an arm brace back in high school and threw some spear gun rubber on it, fucker could shoot hex nuts through a sheet of iron at close range. Zip tied a tube onto it and it could fire arrows up to 200m easy.

For birds and rabbits, sure.

Kinda shit accuracy, though, and you've got to get real close to be sure. This is with heavy lead balls of large caliber.

A .22LR pistol firing subsonic stuff is a million times better if you're real careful with your backdrop, but not all of us can do that due to legality.

Air rifle if you're specifically out to hunt small stuff IMO.

Shooting cans and shit is great fun with a sling shot, though.

Basically the brace does not add much in terms of functionality, but it makes the slingshot less portable, and uglier.

I wouldn't trust my aim with it but with crows and magpies, just shooting a few stones in their general direction when they are loitering around will teach them to stay a bit further away and they'll flee at the sight of the slingshot.
