I'm 28 and a half and I want to get back into BMX biking\Biking in general.

What's the best option for me in the 250-400 dollar range?

Back in the day I loved my mongoose and GT but I feel like the times have changed and people might look at me weird.

Go on Albe's or Danscomp and find a complete you like. They don't carry shitty Walmart bikes. For dirt, look for somethin with a longet top tube (21"+) and taller bars. You can research on the bike company websites too and it will probably tell you which models are more for dirt and won't come with 110psi slick park tires. Other than the tires, there's not much of a difference between the park/stree bikes and ones for trails and the longer/taller top tube and bars are mostly a preference thing.

I don't even know what's out there anymore, I haven't ridden muh BMX in years.

Fit, Subrosa, Sunday, whatever is even still around is straight.

Pic related doesn't look bad. Top tube is a lil shorter and there's other geometry that people can be picky with but it won't really matter since you haven't ridden in awhile. The longer top tube would be nice tho if you aren't a manlet so you aren't hitting your knees on the stem.

Also I just noticed that they are selling a lot of the street and park bikes without brakes... you def want brakes. You can get away without em on park and street if you know whay you're doing, but even pro riders always have brakes for dirt because it's too easy to pick up speed when you're flowing a section.

Also if you want to buy local, just find a brand you like on one of these sites and call around to local bike shops to see if they carry any serious BMX bikes. Dick's and places like that will likely have garbage, but there are always a couple mom n pop bike shops that carry a decent BMX selection.

Fwiw a lot of people will do a lil more knobby front tire and a slicker rear tire and that will get you around everything well. But I think the tires that come on the Sunday will be fine if your trails aren't totally fucked. I have ridden down double black diamond MTB trails at Vail and Breck with 120 PSI park tires and I was fine until it started raining a lil bit. I don't reccommend the 120psi part tho, get some fatter tires (which it seems like that is the trend these days, they're running 2.25"+ wide tires when we used to run 1.80" back in the day) and run em a lil lower on the trails.

Also for longevity, you should be ok if you're spending closer to $400, but make sure you get sealed bearings (headset, hubs, and crank) because that's one of the first things to go when you start riding hard and you don't want to need a new $200+ set of wheels within a year because the hub bearings shredded.

Are they they shitty brands? Because Haro's and Diamondbacks were the awesome in HS during the early 2000's and late 90's. We're we wrong? I've never even heard of Sunday? or Fit

holy shit is that a G-SPOrT sticker ? I used to see George French and Matt Warren riding street around Sheffield loads and at few times in Wakefield. I bought a massive G-SPOrT sticker that covered the entire back window of my mkII Polo '82. I gave it up when I found drink drugs and dj'ing but my mate goes all round the world working for WeThePeople. Loved my KHE beater she was a tank but lovely on street vert and dirt.

It changed. Haro had some good stuff to buy at the bike shop, but not really serious stuff. A real rider wouldn't buy a Haro frame and build a complete. GT has been Sports Authority tier for decades. Diamondbacks were kinda the same as Haro, if not a little lower.

Sunday as a little newer brand, maybe a lil over 10 years old now.

That's why I said to look on those websites because they only carry brands that are more serious than Walmart or a sporting goods store.

G-Sport was the shit a few years back, one of the few smaller serious BMX companies trying to put real engineering into their stuff. Idk if they're still around now, but they were mixed up with Odyssey. I was always a big fan of Odyssey, they made good parts with a warranty and seemed to be a little more innovative than other companies at the same price point. That's why I got that Sunday! frame, it was almost like Odyssey finally made a frame. That's the original 1st model Sunday!, doesn't have a model name or anything, just the Sunday! frame. I had a Volume (Mike Escamilla's Mexican) before that but after that they became a little less relevant.
