People there can be really enthusiastic about Jesus, may not like city folk, are into guns usually, Bluegrass music is popular there and they maintain a strong connection to that old Appalachian culture.
They're an easy target to make fun of as being backwards hill folk. In truth though, every state is pretty diverse. I'm not from West Virginia but I love Bluegrass music and guns, so take my stereotyping for what it's worth. We make fun of Kentucky a lot too. It's usually all in good fun and maybe a bit out of jealousy too.
