Latinas with blue or green eyes are dank tho. There's a handful of Colombians and Venezuelans like that. One of the qt coffee girls from an old stop has these blue eyes and I had a lil crush on her for years. I've done better with the Rippin Raps, but I think it's because the Red Eye Shads are bigger and not the best for all the little <1lb pond bass and even the bigger guys don't like hitting them when the water is warm.

In other news I went to check out a nearby bog/pond as I want to start fishing for pike again.
Bought a shitty cheap jerkbait from a nearby hardware store (broke as fuck this month) and went for a small trip. Violá! 3hrs fishing, 4 pike on land. 2 mini-sized (~30cm), 2 decent. Pic related is the bigger one. Not all that bad for a short first trip to a new spot.

Get some 1/3-3-4oz football jigs and use them on a Mh 7ft fast action Memecaster with 15lb pline flurocarbon. Use shorter casts. Let your lure settle to the bottom. Keep your rod tip high, and no slack in your line. If you have the right weight on for the depth you are fishing, you should be able to feel the bottom. Keeping a high rod tip and tight line will help you detect bites better and help you pull your lure through snaggy areas. If you get near a big rock or limb you can even yo-yo your jig in place over the structure. I usually use these lures when fishing new water since they can find hidden laydowns, timber or rock. When you get really good with a jig you will even be able to tell yhe difference between structure types.

Like other annons have said, it helps if the water you are fishing has crayfish. Also during winter when the water gets below 45°, crayfish will hybernate. Shad/minnow pattern baits will be more effective usually.
I usually tie a looped uni knot to get more action out my crawrigs in rocks. When fishing timber, i prefer a regular uni knot to limit extra motion and will use flipping jig instead.

U dun gud. Sit inside is better in almost every scenario besides rollovers. Lower wind profile, shelters legs from wind and sun, lower on water is better for balance, easier to grab gear. You can also make your sit in kayak more buoyant in case of roll over with some styrofoam in the storage areas.

This is an articulated flashy leech that was killing them last year at this time. Non weighted to use with slow sinking line. There's a hopper on it's back that I cooked up during terrestrial season this year.

I just went in for a head swap, I have a Cherokee with the dreaded 0331 head and it was acting like it cracked. I could have (should have) done it myself. They have literally broken $300 worth of parts and expect me toto pay for them once they finally get it put back together.

Where do you live and what are you trying to catch? Unless you live in alaska and/or are an injun I doubt it's legal to make a "large haul" but most states will allow you to put away a fair amount of fish.

A freaking MONSOON moving over my state now. Rivers are finally getting some rain. I planned on just fishing through it but my jacket, which I thought was water proof, was getting soaked an hour into fishing on the shoulders and it seeped through my sweater. Had to back out.

Generally do fish not bite in the rain however? Cause I at least found some good water to fish today but only made out with a fallfish, sunnie, and a dink largemouth when I was expecting smallies galore.

I find that summer rains improve the bite a lot more than a cold rain. Warm water holds less oxygen than cool water so in the summer the rains oxygenate the water and increase fish movement. A cold rain will slow the fish metabolism.

Relatively new to fishing here, need some help.

Colder months are coming and bites are declining. I use to pan fish a lot and started catfish and bass over the summer and I'd like to start walleye fishing too. Living in Ohio, how do I trigger bites in general in colder climates?

I have a spinning reel, baitcaster, fly rod that I haven't learned yet, and I plan on getting an ice rod since I have an auger.

I've been trying to jig lately with no success. Pls help /ftt/ ;-;

For bass you'll want moving baits most likely. Anything that looks like a shad/bluegill. Swim Jigs, lipless cranks, swimbaits, ect. This time of year bass will generally feed heavily on baitfish to get ready for the winter. If it's been really cold up there and the water temps are getting real cool then switch to a jerkbait.

Also I think my fav color for the RedEye Shad. I always had luck with gold. Maybe because there were more shiners than shad in the places I fished up north but still my go-to crankbait color.

10lb on spinning aint that bad. Personally my lightest setup would be my spinning setup to 4lb test, but since he has a fly setup i guess thats his lightest.

10 lb test is great when fishing thick stuff. Bend out light wire hooks instead of sticking them around wood

Bought a braided line for the first time and I hate it.
Its resistance to abrasion is embarrassing, I have to move through the vegetation with the terror of hitting anything, because the line can get damaged so easily.
Also underwater the line hits plenty of things: how can you know if one of those impact has left a fatal damage on the line? You can't.
Even when you try to cut it with scissors it's a pain in the ass, because it "shreds" instead of a clean cut. Cutting the excess of knots is just ugly.

Finally a keeper halibut for the year after dozens of short this year. Color is beautiful too. Surprisingly, it was on a 5/8 oz which I rarely get halibut on (only 2nd on kroc, 4th on a spoon ever). Its stomach was completely empty so the thing was probably starving.

Got it right the heat wave in middle of fall is gone, and the red tides disappear, and the weather just started to cool down with overcast sky all day. Took quite a bit of effort to land that thing from a rocky inlet by myself with no landing net.

You sound like you are paranoid. If you buy a decent braid like power pro, it won’t fray that easily. It’s very obvious when braid is damaged so if you don’t see anything them the braid is fine. You literally have to rub braid with high tension against a sharp edge like rock or mussle filled pilling to damage it. Vegetables won’t so shit to braid. Knocking a few things won’t do much. In fact, there are many times when I wrap around kelp and I just hold 2 ends of the braid then pull hard enough so the braid can just cut clean through solid kelp branch. Braid can take a lot of abuse. To cut braid , the key is to hold the braid tension really tight then cut it when something sharp. . Also, curb your autism and don’t cut tag end too close to the knot. Half an inch of extra tag end won’t affect your fishing.

There’s a chance that I would damage the mainline and the knot while trying to burn the tag end so I rather not do it. It doesn’t matter as long as I avoid cutting the tag end too close to knot and butchering the cut

Caught my first ever pompano the other day on vacation in Florida. Never fished in the beach surf before. Was using light bass tackle because that was all I could fit in luggage. He hit a chartreuse pompano jig. Also caught two flounders on it.

Fish will strike on the pause. The trick is keeping your line tight enough to detect bites on the pause without pulling the lure through the water. Sometimes they'll hammer the shit out of it and do the work for you.

Most of the time I go for the next twitch, they have the thing in their mouth anyway and it sets the hook. Jerkbaits are one of the easier lures to set the hook with and pretty easy to fish as long as you can get some good action into it.

Somewhat true. Occasionally the next jerk/twitch will be an incidental hookset because I didn't feel the bite on the pause. When it's slow and you're dead-sticking the thing for 5 seconds or more you really have to feel for that bite. Jerkbaits are hard and those fish won't hold on to them like they will a soft plastic. Fish can potentially bite and spit out a jerkbait on a long pause without you knowing it.

Which makes sense because you generally aren't changing how you hold the rod after the cast. If you can palm the reel while you cast, or have an injury like yourself, it makes sense to us left hand retrieve.

It depends on what I want the jig to do.

The keitech swing impact (blue gill flash is the color I've been using) when the tail moves it moves the skirt without you having to shake/jerk the rod. I think this smaller package works better for when the bass aren't feeding super heavy.

If I just want something bulkier I'll use a Strike King Rage Swimmer, or a keitech fat.

I also use Zoom Fat Albert twin tail grubs a lot of time.

Definitely depends on a plethora of factors but fishing at night should be something you could sir yes sure your way out of if caught. and its an amazing rod, it will whip out 7/8th ounce tins or epoxy jigs far as fuck and will cast up to 1 1/4 ounce alright
havent had anything super huge on mine but it handles 28 inch albies like a charm

Bluegill spawn like mad, but to become the respectable sized eaters takes both good conditions (plenty of food, plenty of predators for the smaller ones to keep competition down) and about 5 to 7 years.
It takes a crappie about 3 years to clear a half of a pound and get to that magical size where every other fish can't eat it, but big ones still can. They grow much faster.

Also had various cotton cordell lures in the discount bin for $1 (normally $2), so I picked up a two of those. Figured I might as well use welfare gear until I figure out how do use these then I'll invest in nice shit.

If the rain holds off tomorrow I'll find out just how hard it is to fish this way.

I got some surgery pliers because a 2 inch bluegill will find a way to swallow a 3 inch hook if you let them. I am worried that they will actually swallow the treble instead of hooking in their mouths because they are so fucking small, but at $3 I had to give it a shot. Im hopping they won't get a chance to swallow it because it will be moving through the water quick enough that they will only get to strike it and get hooked.

Not a chance. I've heard too many good things about them to dismiss them over cheap junk. I just have a general rule that if I'm buying something I buy the cheap crap first to see how it works and if it fits me then once it breaks because it's cheap crap I buy good ones.

Honestly I’ve used work and bobber almost this entire year and spent like $80 on different lures and the one that I found that worked for me are rebel minnow T49 series. I think they are a jerk bait but I seem to catch panfish everywhere with it

Some guy was talking to me from his dock and I was trying to describe it to him and he said that's what it probably was. Obviously I didn't know and the closest thing I could think of was an eel. The expensive Mepps are totally worth it, but first learn how to run the lure so it doesn't touch any snaggy bottoms. They work amazingly if you drag it along a sand bottom or smooth rock and kick up sediment. But super easy to snag on anything else. I usually don't drag the bottom and rip along the surface. Now that its getting cooler I let it fall for a few seconds and reel for a few seconds in 15 feet of water.

Years ago I got these cheap inlines from Walmart... Silver Fox or some shit and they worked ok but it took some speed to keep the blade going. I grabbed a few white and a few black ones (only had 1/8oz) and they were straight for fishing risky spots and landing panfish.

Keep an eye out for sales because Rooster Tails will go on sale for $1-$2 from time to time at Dick's and even Bass Pro.

But, yeah, I get where you are coming from and do the same to some extent.
As mentioned you don't wanna cheap out on spinners due to line kink or blade not spinning at all. Almost every lure can catch fish well even if not having the intended action. E.g. a crappy wobbler (crankbait I think Americans call them) with no action - just fish it as a jerkbait and instill the action yourself.
