I'm in debt, college grad, working low pay.

I learned nothing in college and my job has no upward mobility. Would it be possible to fuck off innawoods with a tablet and a solar charger. Work 24/7 on learning how to program good, and come back in 4 months and get a real job?

It puts me in more of a survive or die situation. Right now I can make enough to always be a lower class wage slave. If I go all in on this it's either die out in the woods or learn enough to come back into the workforce with a better job

It's becoming increasingly difficult to enter the industry as a self taught programmer. Most companies will expect either a meaningless degree in comp sci, or a significant portfolio built from freelancing - the latter naturally means that a shit load of factors outside of your control will determine your success (mostly negative) even if you did make it through the tribulations of somehow being self subsisting innawoods for 4 month AND giving yourself a full time education.

If you're going to retrain into programming, do it the way everyone else does - an x many month certificate at a shit college. That, or sell all your shit, and go live in some cheap shithole of an apartment or hostel for 6 months. (Oh, and buy yourself a laptop or cheap home built pc, because you're going to learn shit all in the way of transferable skills from a tablet)

I thought the whole appeal of programming is that it could be self directed and self taught. I'm not trying to work at a fortune 500 company or anything, and I'd obviously have projects to show I know what I'm doing

I was planning on whoring myself out on those cheap contracting websites to complete a few projects, and then lying on my resume to make it look like I had a job at a place out of town.
