Im thinking about picking up a Marlin 336 in 30-30 for this up coming hunting season and am wondering if anyone has had real world experience hunting with this calibre. Im from northern Canada and primarily will be hunting Mule Deer and Moose. I plan on keeping it iron sight or possibly adding a peep sight and keeping the shots within 100 metres. Im hearing conflicting info from my family either 1) Its a great calibre and will do the job fine or 2) Its a wounder and you'll have trouble with deer. I usually hunt with a .308 and a 30-06 but am looking for a light gun I can take on the quad/truck or with me while camping or hiking. Im a serious and ethical hunter who knows where to shoot on an animal and am not looking for a "any headshot will do" answer.
