Spring powered air rifles are extremely hold sensitive, with the magnum class being the worst. You'll have to learn what is called the artillery hold.
That said once you master that they are wonderful guns. I have a diana 34 and can't recommend it enough. In .177 you can reliably take rabbits to 40 yards, small birds to 65+. I use it to shoot pigeons on my parents farm mostly.
If you're mechanically inclined, the Ruger Airhawk is a chinese clone of the Diana 34, and with a little polishing and work, can be made to shoot as good or better than a stock 34 for less than $100.
