>>1134578I'm not going to dig a fucking hole every time I want to cook, especially around here. We have rocky soil to begin with but where I usually am in the alpine or near alpine it's even worse. Not when I can just pop out my little Trangia or pop can stove, poor some methanol and be good to go.
If I were creating a semi permanent camp it would be different.
>>1134814Obviously, but it's not really about hiding from the gubmint. Keeping a low profile and small footprint is just comfy for some reason. If I was hiding from gov't or .mil I'd get me a SHARK bag.
Besides all that, bonfires just seem wasteful to me even at family gatherings. If I'm going to go through the trouble of finding/harvesting a tree and processing it to burnable units I'm going to throw that fucker in the back of my truck and bring it home to burn in my wood stove where I will be heating my house, and not just warming up the outdoors for nothing.
