I have a friend who lives an hour from a paved road and 2 to a place that sells groceries. He seems to like it but I can’t see it as a good way to raise a family or keep any kind of social life. I can’t post pics because it’s a weed farm.

Yeah because all those folks living miles from the nearest paved road have that lightening fast fiber optic connection.

Off-Grid Canadian here, I'm 20km to the nearest mantained road. Getting Internet is extreamly viable but im also in Oil Country so our network out here is alot more advanced. Im still able to do everything but gaming.

The nearest maintained road is 20km away. My land is bordered by crown land. Me and my closest neighbour maintain a goat trail that leads to our properties, are homes are about 1km away from each other. When i moved there we agreed it would be easier if i build closer to their property line. We both have 160 acres of mostly treed land, share a small seasonal stream.

Kijiji, local real-estate, go for a drive. Off grid properties are cheaper but costly to build when bringing in supplies. Im also in North-western Canada, lots of land for homesteading

Need anything? Just add to the list. I have lived in city, near city and in the middle of nowhere, best one was relatively close to a small village. It's fucking chore to be away from everything that makes life easier.

We have an anon that has a cabin in Alaska with a gorgeous view of My. Denali.
He meets a sea plane down at an unnamed lake to get food and fuel.
Works 6 months on ship then spends 6 months at his cabin hunting caribou and sipping whiskey.

Again, depends on state/county. Where I grew up land was around $800 an acre for rough ground (unimproved, non-farmable). Where I live now it's $12,000 an acre for the same type of land because "muh durr huntan' lease"
