I'm a design student, and I'm planning to make outdoor gear. Because all the job shit on here is STEM, I figured I'd post my finished/semi-finished designs here for discussion/insults/disregard.

this is a collapsible chair that attaches to monopod hiking poles. It also works without the pole as a seat

I got the idea to put it on a pole because i wanted to make a seat that you could lean into, which i find i do on backpacking trips. I can get an action shot soon.

I like the idea. The thing is you could probably make a bunch of money on this idea, but as a gritty outdoorsman myself, I'd rather sit on a rock or a log than being jewed into being a gear queer.

How long can you balance on that? It looks exhausting and I can't imagine anyone would want to do that after hiking a long distance. Although I do think there maybe is a need for some type of chair because after a few days of backpacking the thing I wanted most was somewhere to sit down. Looks like a good way to break your pole and someone will fall off and sue you on day one.

I have a helinox, my chair is smaller, I haven't weighed it with a scale yet, but the helinox feels heavier. The helinox is definitely more comfortable though

That's a fair point about the poles breaking, I'm still troubleshooting that a bit. I'm not really balancing as much as I'm leaning. There is some side to side balance required, but a wide stance fixes that. I know personally, when I'm eating something quick on the trail, I like to lean on something, which fucks up my pack, this would fix that. It does also work quite well as a freestanding seat, and it's at stove height, so I think it could be a fairly good camp chair

I actually really like this. Only thing I would add is maybe a slot for another trekking pole to attach bipod style so that you don't need to act as the other two legs for the chair.

I'm making one of these later on I think. I just need to pick up the bolts and something for the seat. I have seasoned American Sycamore for the legs I'll be using.

It means I'm going into product design. I'll be making gear for a living. It was more of an exercise in thinking through problems, and general design skills than anything else.

Well I was raised as a Catholic, I was baptized and all that shit but soon (like 10) realized I was being brainwashed. I respect most of its values though since I'm not a deconstructionist retard but the fact is that my European forebears had their own beliefs long before they were forced to convert to Christianity.

One of the greatest values to me is the flexibility of a design, I can use a foldable chair on any semi flat surface, why would I want to use this product instead?

Having to bend through your knees and needing to brace the seat against something are both less ideal than just having a chair.
