>>1144935If you're planning on visiting California do yourself a favor and visit the big climbing areas. Yosemite is a magical place to climb. Joshua Tree is lovely in the fall. Lake Tahoe is has some amazing rock/views and plenty of moderate trad. Climb North America's first 5.9 put up by none other than Royal Roberts in Tahquitz.
As for more obscure crags, I can really only recommend crags near southern California since that's where I do 90% of my climbing.
>Tunnel CragCool sport crag right next to a mountain highway. Good views and a 5 minute approach.
>Keller PeakShorter formations, but tons of varied climbing. There's free camping here too. I also learned how to climb here, so it might be shit, but I love it.
>Valley of the MoonOnly visit if you have access to a 4x4 vehicle with at least 10" of clearance. If you do, it's a mini Jtree on the Mexican border.
>New Jack CityGood sport climbing out in the high desert. Can be pretty crowded during the peak season, but it's easy to find solitude if you hike far enough into the canyon.
>Big RockThis place is pretty obscure. Just about every notable climber that came out of southern California's early climbing scene cut their teeth here. Lynn Hill, John Bachar, John Long, etc. Mostly old school climbing. Expect huge run outs on the slabs.
