Someone close to me died recently and it got me thinking about what I wanted to happen to my body when it's my turn. What does /out/ think?

Cremation then scattering at your favourite spot seems pretty hard to beat, but I could be swayed.

Viking funeral. All my friends do a drug&sex fuelled party at the beach in my memory, when everybody is tanked up, they load my ashes on a boat together with my most valuable possessions, drench it with diesel, push it into the night and light it up with tracer automatic rifle fire.
Bonus points if a broad gets knocked up that night!

Really though aside from using fuel (and they talk about piggybacking payloads iirc) this is way better than earth burial. Not only is space unfathomably vast and reachless, but eventually the remains will either be scooped up on a comet or asteroid, or fall in to a star. Or, just be eroded by dust and the interstellar medium; either way you are simply returning to what your physical body originally was. Particulate and basic elements.

Littering is Littering because it has an effect on the environment and accumulates in places we frequent in what is really a pretty small place (the earth). You could multiply our present population by a thousand, bury each one of us in a nicely appointed intermodal container, and even launching all of that in to interstellar space would not even be noticable nor would it have any sort of dynamic impact (such as consequences of dumping trash in the ocean).

Anyway, humans attach ritual to death as part of grieving. This is just another way to do that.

Same here in Switzerland, but my Grandma wanted her ashes scattered at her favourite spot in the woods. 200 people attended the funeral, including the local cops and the mayor. no fucks given.
