Honestly, I like TNF stuff. I have a few things. All have been gifts or bought on clearance though. I have a poly blend long sleeve I wear as a base layer that's probably my most worn piece of clothing. I have a few hoodies, and a denali vest that's awesome. I always like the way their stuff fits for some reason.
Like others said, a lot of it is simply fashion. A lot of it is over priced. As long as you find a sale, and like the item, it'll is usually well made.
As for other brands, they are all about the same as TNF, depends on the item. I have a Marmot puffer jacket, a Columbia fleece, ect ect... All seem about the same. Usually pretty good quality. Again, all stuff I've got as gifts or on sale, but I like it.
