The land is still there, it's just back under the jurisdiction of the people of Utah the way it should always have been. I had always felt Obama's grabbing of the land was an abuse of power, should have really been put through the legislative branch and not through executive order. If you want this much land federally protected right your congressman.

Regardless, the more we can produce for ourselves, the less that is needed from someone else. For instance, I'm sure the US government would love to completely shut off their oil buying from anywhere outside the US.

To be fair, most of Grand Staircase was pretty average Utah desert. There are some special places, for sure, but there's also a lot of nothing in between.

Not saying that turning that nothing into open pits is a great idea, but Grand Staircase was never national park quality.
