baka all the googling I do lists only campsites. I'm looking for recommendations/preferences to the various state and national forests for dispersed camping.

Anywhere along the Superior shore should be drowning in snow by now. The waterfalls along Pictured Rocks should be cool if they haven't frozen solid.

You probably want some place with evergreen trees so it's not just sticks and snow. Unfortunately I spend my time in the UP either during the summer or drunk, so I can't help you a lot finding a pine forest.
