>>1155731Get a canoe and hit the West/Northwest lakes and rivers. Tons of awesome portages and wilderness areas. My favorite /out/ings were paddling out to islands in the middle of the lake with a bunch of extra comfy gear that I couldn't hike in otherwise.
The 46 High Peaks are mostly memes, you'll be dodging tourists all year round on weekends. If you do go, I recommend Gothics, Pyramid, and Avalanch pass. All doable in one trip. These will be the only spots where you get good vantage spots though.
If you climb, the eastern lakes/high peaks regions have pretty fun trad. My favorite place based on ease of approach and density of climbs is Keene Valley. Bouldering is spotty and I never found any pebbles there that really kept my interest, but Nine Corner Lake has enough problems to spend a weekend at.
>sport climbing is non-existent>this is a great thingThe best pro-tip I can say is to get maps for the wilderness areas (few tourists, no gumbys, no logging operations).
Tons of lean-tos are scattered throughout the park and most are maintained well, so you can get by not bringing a tent and using the saved space for an extra firewood tool of choice or booze.
There is still quite a bit of private property in the park, so get a current map wherever you go in case the good ol' boys haven't been out to blaze their property line in a while.
