Monday : A solar recharger I ordered with 'overnight delivery' 3 weeks ago is marked as shipped... but if it arrives while I'm not here, and I'm not around to collect it in a week, AusPost will send the thing back.

Tuesday : discover I've got a busted rear wheel adjuster, and it takes until about 2pm to find a spare from the local bike shops. The first night's planned camp is 3 hours riding away, and the running-around has tried me out, so I have to pass on leaving for yet another day.

Wednesday : wake up to my vertebrae being little shits. Not bad enough not to ride, but any lifting or twisting fucking hurts.

ffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuu, make that /maybe/ a 6 day motorcycle camping trip. :<

The bike is a CT110, or "Postie Bike" it's what the Australian postal service uses to deliver mail. They have 4 gears and a centrifugal clutch making them super simple to ride, especially in traffic, however the average top speed of these things is like 90km/h (55mph). After x amount of miles on the bikes, Australia Post sells them off cheap to the highest bidder so there's a constant stream of used posties being sold. Being cheap and fuel efficient they tend to be popular with uni students and innercity yuppies. But don't right the postie off as being just a city cruiser, it is near impossible to kill these things and they somehow excel at offroad too, I've seen bike 90% submerged (exhaust underwater) in river crossing and still running.

That's still pretty good. I used to have a 150 cc Kymco scooter that could get to 55 mph top speed (actual, not just indicated) only a very flat road, with a lot of room to speed up, and the suspension was not built to handle those speeds. What's my point? I'm not sure. Just that your 110 cc (I'm guessing its displacement from the name) motorbike ain't too shabby at all if you can stick to back roads for your trip.

My trouble was that the "back roads" in my state are all posted 65 mph, so you just end up going as fast as you'd go on the freeway, and since they're less straight than the freeway, you need to be on top of your shit to drive them. So I moved up to a larger bike...

From a camping tour I did back in March-- I like the Postie for the offroadability (and the reliability that >>115805 mentions), so I've been hitting-up the 4WD tracks and the like.
This time it's just a State Forests South of Sydney trip, but also an equipment shakedown for another around-Australia trip in a couple of months.

My bike has an issue with the rear brake that I'm suspecting could end up like this.. I've been over it several times, replaced pins, etc. I think I'll just have to ride it until it actually fails. :/

I've thought about doing an Epic Voyage like Nathan/www.thepostman.org.uk did, but after reading his book, the amount of hassle he went through (carnet de passage.. visa.. thieving indians), and the blind luck he got (the ripoff costs of needing to hire a personal 'guide' in China, and getting through an old Russian state only because a female tourist gave a guard a blowjob just before processing him and being in a good mood..), makes trying to do the 'Hippy Trail' of the 1970s not that great an idea these days. :/

Still, he had some really awesome times. I've met him at a book signing, and his most favourite part of the whole trip was actually Pakistan!

I might not return safely though-- one of the camping spots is the Bengalo State Forest-- where Ivan Milat murdered/buried about a dozen people. :)
