Plenty of beautiful areas devoid of people (after hiking for a few miles) in the Bay.
Point Reyes, West from Inverness
The North side of Mt Tamalpais, especially the areas around Bolinas Fairfax road
Montara Notch between Pacifica and Skyline
Soquel Demo Forest
Those are pretty easy places to figure out. As a local you will learn many more, if you try. There are also way more remote places than Tahoe within a shorter distance from the bay, Mendocino NF and the Tahoe NF around Downieville are some of my favorites.
