Basically, these days how do you go /out/ and what do you have for safety?

carry a first aid kit
always let someone know where you are going
always let someone know for how long you will be gone

Carrying a gun changes most folks. The responsibility and possible consequences of using it on another increases your situational awareness if you aren't a total moron. There's really nothing to worry about around here. If I go out into the woods, I generally don't even bring my phone. If I had one of those CAT ones I wouldn't be worried about it getting scratched. I never go too far away from the nearest village (not that I could considering the area I wander around).

I live in the middle of nowhere in the woods. Hour and half for police. And that's if you're home and not in tbe woods.
Everyone owns and carries firearms here. I've had a ccdw permit for 7 years now. Carry everywhere I go. City, wilderness, ect always on me.
I've had situations before that I won't go into, but it's a crucial thing to have when you're away from civilization. And primarily because of humans and not animals from my experience.
Always keep a small sub compact glock 9mm on my person and when innawoods I have a long gun. A ar pistol in 300 blackout can whack coyotes 500 yards away and take care of any meth heads.
Pack it in a Eberlestock that has a weapon pocket so it's easy peasy.

Even though I see no point in carrying a rifle around (not against it, just don't personally like the idea of carrying some bulky steel piece with me) if you aren't hunting or target practicing, I do see no harm either in CC or OC some handgun in the woods or on your daily life.
I will never understand why do people walk down the street or into coffee shops with their ARs or SCARs tho.

Bear spray is more effective because the chances of retards fucking it up are ridiculously low, not to mention that it incapacitates an animal guaranteed, while a gunshot does not. A gunshot CAN incapacitate a bear, there's just no guarantee.
