Just a headsup that CES is next month, not sure if GoPro will announce anything new though.
Currently in a market for first action cam too, and pic looks like a decent one, problem is its more than a year old.

I got the Hero 5 Refurb, works great! Just make sure to play around with settings, and invest in a well rated accessory kit + extra batteries, Im currently debating on getting third party or just the gopro brand kind, need to research into it more. It has voice control and other neat things, but you sacrifice battery life, so if all you want to do is hit record and leave it alone, then its a solid choice, I recommend getting a 128 gig card with at least 90/mbs speed, and invest in a back up card. Probably didnt want to hear that but you dont have to do it all at once.

I have the Gitup Git2p.

It has really good stabilization. Even better than the GoPro 5 in my opinion.

Comes with a 70 degree FOV lens instead of the standard wide angle.

Found a GoPro Hero+ in a waterproof case at the bottom of the creek nearby - lot of city folk like to come down in the summer and canoe down the creek.
Still works, had some pictures of fat chicks on it but nothing special. It's missing it's mount but a replacement one from Amazon is ~$5. Thinking of getting the shoulder strap.

Edit the videos to a reasonable length, and keep them interesting.

I run an older Contour Roam. Not the best image quality, but it's dead simple to use and I prefer the form factor over the gopros.

It's nice for racing, where I can go back and look at certain lines I picked again, and do a self-review where I can improve. >pic related
Backcountry days it's nice to hit the switch and get record of anything I look at.

I've got the Sony FDR X3000. Obtuse long name, but a great camera. Definitely can recommend.

Specs are better than the gaypro, unless you like everything with a fish eye.

This thing actually looks great after some quick google research, it has all the good qualities of a GoPro but without the annoying oversaturation and all fisheye everything policy.

So you set your gopro to flat, do you color correction when you process your videos and set it so it doesnt record in super wide. Fuck that was hard wasnt it.

Wide setting just means its cropping the image to make it "zoomed in".

You might as well be doing that in the computer later and get extra room for pixel loss from warp stabilizador or whatever.

If you want, to change focal length, you can change the lens.

I use a Hero 5 session to film all of my flights in Afghanistan. With the exception of battery life, no complaints. I get 1.5 hours of recording out of it, but I'd like to get about a half hour more without sacrificing the settings that I'm currently using.

I got the SJ7 star, with the latest firmware update and all

1080p60 is pretty decent, the colors are accurate and the electronic stabilization is actually better than the hero 5

For $200 you get a decent package, 3 batteries, remote and telescope stick

I'm the guy above with the Git2p.
SjCAM and GitUp have the same business address, so it's likely they're made by the same company.

Firmware and support is different though.
Both have really good gyro stabilization.

I also have the Eken H9. It doesn't have any stabilization but it's immeasurably better than tye $35 price suggests.

Like I said, I can recommend. I (also) watched a tonne of side-by-side comparisons and forum debates before putting down 500€ (yup, Eurofag here).

I'd post vids I put on youtube for comparison, but... not on 4chan. I wouldn't give a 10/10, as the various video options are not really explained for n00bs, and the associated freeware (PlayMemories) has some annoyances. But that's all I'd criticize, and it's not the hardware itself.
