In Europe they sell "rigger boots". its a pullup work boot with fake fur lining.
They are basically a cross of leather ugg style boots and wellington/rain boots, that are wide enough to be used with big socks, sometimes 2 pairs over tucked in trousers.

Usually can be had cheap. $30 or less.

Never seen this exact style of boots in the US.

Sorel G XTs are best if you don't mind clomping around in moon boots. The Baffins seem like the more mobile option.

If you're out for a long time & active, too warm means sweat. Means cold feet. For when you're active, get lightly insulated boots, with extra wool insoles & not tight fitting (so some air circulates) I get condensation problems with rubber bases or reflective liners . Separate gatters help keep you warm too & you can take them off easily. Then use down booties or some really warm, light shit to wear around camp. Or extra boot liners & socks you can change out when damp. Works for me

This is my biggest problem with winter gear. Just like I dont wear the same clothes when it is 50 or 70F, I can't wear the same clothes when it is 15F or 32F. And I much prefer 15F over 32F because I will actually be warmer since I won't sweat at that temp and there's no mud.

Sorels are best for me for ice fishing. I typically walk 1-2 miles to a spot I fish on. I might sweat around my neck or something but never sweated in the boots. And then they'll still keep feet warm for hours sitting still on ice conducting heat away. Key is all the space inside and thick insulation, not just tight non breathable layers against your feet.

What will you be doing in them OP? I don't know about either that you've listed, but for a cheap alternative, I would recommend milsurp mukluks. The wool liners come separately most of the time, but the grand total can come down to $40-$60 (including shipping), maybe even less if you search in the right places.

Good to know. I can’t say much more, so here’s a bump. If you’re not hiking too far like the sorel guy, then sorel sounds like a good option. If you’re in the us, you could look on Craigslist.

Five years ago I lived in Minneapolis and got a pair of Stegers, visited Duluth and Grand Marais frequently in the winter - they kept my feet toasty even in the -20's. This will be their last year but I'll definitely get another pair.

Make a pair of boot liners out of open cell foam. Great insulation and still warm when wet, and sheds moisture easily. Heck you can make hats coats and mittens out of the stuff too and be cozy in -40 below zero F using foam. It's a little goofy looking but it works. I made boots and mittens and a cap for myself when I was in the Boy Scouts and they worked great.

That's Harry Peacock. He's a Scout leader in Utah, my troop was in Denver but we still heard about what he was doing and it was a good project. He has videos on making the hats and mittens if you check his channel.

I used to work as a guide teaching kids how to winter camp. These were the only boots I found to both keep my feet warm and comfortable hiking around all day is severe cold. There expensive but worth every penny in my book.
