>>1167435Well, if you used it as a weapon, in the belt with no cover seems to be the only way it was carried. And I'm not just talking Vikings, like frontier guys in black powder era too. I'm a amateur shit tier blacksmith, and I haven't really seen any sort of cover besides a very small leather bit folded over the blade. The only other sort of historically supported carrying method I've seen is axes completely wrapped up in a cloth/blanket/fur, but that was for larger felling axes that wouldn't fit on a belt. You also don't see larger axes carried around, they were at farms and logging camps and sat around in sheds.
Belt carry works well if your wearing heavy cold weather clothing, but I can see why 'over the shoulder' carry is so common in the jungle.
