How much damage did the meteor crater impact to to the environment of the southwest United States?

I was driving Thur that area and I've always wondered if that was a contributing factor to the landscape.

It impacted during the precolumbian period, about 40k y/a? There were no humans present to see it. At that time, AZ did have giant ground sloths and turtles two feet across down in swamps near Tucson. I doubt it changed any weather patterns, if that's what you mean. It was a nickel/iron meteorite abt 90-120' across at impact. Don't get me wrong, the impact crater is over 1mi across at the rim, the edges are lifted from the srounding plain and boulders the size of houses dot the rim on all sides. The material from inside the crater was largely vaporized, thus no nugget of wealth for Barrenger, the namesake.

that's how the Columbia River Gorge and the eastern Washington scablands were formed, so it's not that outrageous. Catastrophism seems to actually be more common than geologists once thought.

For some reason I'm missing pictures, but here's one I grabbed of Captain Jack's Stronghold, a unique piece of geology in America since it served as an actual military conflict point where natives held out under siege for over a year.

It's in Lava Beds NM, California

sounds familiar... the only geology I know is soil science and this is pretty exotic stuff, so beats me. They look like hoodoos, but they're fumaroles.

Actually, both of those are probably in BC, but you have to go through Alaska to get there so my point stands.

The highway out of Thermopolis goes through Wind River Canyon, which is an amazing geological wonder. It exposes some very old rock. 2.5 billion years old to my recollection, but I could be wrong.

The interpretive sign just said Precambrian, which is not very specific. It also said "several" billion years old, which covers pretty much everything.
