I don't think it will kill all potential parasites and viruses, but it will help keeping the water fresh. I think silver is a bit safer as you don't want too much copper in you, hence why copper cooking pots often have a coating, which can be bad itself if it's lead in it. And don't cook/store sour food in pure copper pots.

It's a shame silver is so expensive. Copper poisoning is definitely a concern of mine, but I figure it shouldn't be a problem if I only use it when /out/.
I'm also a /fit/izen and take zinc regularly so I've heard that blocks copper absorption.

Silver on the other hand... hell even a silver coin in your bottle is always nice. That's what the pioneers used to put in milk.

Yeah it is really useful though, I use colloidal silver when I get sick as it is both antiviral and antibacterial. Fuck a flu vaccine that only covers a couple strains when there's hundreds. Fuck penicillin, it is overprescribed and many things have become resistant to it. Silver should be in your kit if you are going teddymode or deep innawoods.
