Though I guess depending on how serious you are about going /out/ (i.e. how often you will be using a backpack and how demanding your activities can be), you're probably better off in the long run if you invest in something more expensive and good.
In either case taking care of your equipment and doing small repairs yourself (get a sewing machine from a thrift store) should be a priority for you.
