So there's these guys nearby where I live that go Yowie hunting, which is the Ausfag version of looking for Bigfoot. facebook com /SunshineCoastYowieResearch/ if you're interested.

I really kind of want to go out looking for Yowies. Possibly with these guys, as they were inviting people out a while back.

What gear would you guys recommend to go hunt cryptids? Any bigfoot experts online? Are you an Ausfag who has witnessed a Yowie.

I know this is partially /x/ but I'm asking about the outdoor factor.

For the record I know Yowies are most likely not at all real. But it's fun going out looking for stuff. Those guys have some pretty interesting photos tho.

I even went and watched a YouTube video or two. Some guy was filming broken trees as if they're yowie tracks. Give a yowie pack enough time and surely with their destructive nature they'll just tear the forest down. Save you having to look for them. For real, why would something that doesn't want to be found leaving tracks like a broken forest in its wake, Red herring surely.

If i were you I'd just take a rope and a stool

Anyway, I live on the Goldy and have spent a lot of time outdoors, mostly through the hinterland. Have seen and heard some very strange things while chasing bass, especially at night. I've had two visual encounters of 'something', but these were both in dense low land mangrove and wet sclerophyll forests. Reasonably (if that's an appropriate word to use) sure these were both junjudees.

I'm and environmental scientist (environmental GIS analyst to be exact) and among consultants and local academics, yowies will often come up in conversation, especially when out in the field at night. When the smartest lady you've ever met who has more knowledge of the bush than anyone else on the coast tells you that she's seen a yowie, you start to really think about things.

Can't help you out with any spots on the Sunny Coast, but if you're interested in a Gold Coast trip, it would pay to check out the Canungra Military Reserve, as well as the Hinterland to Coast Critical Corridor Mapping as a starting point. Check out the Yowie Hunters forums as well. If you're really serious about this, check out the posts made by a fella by the name of 'Rusty2'. He takes a reasonably scientific approach and has put more than $20,000 into researching these creatures.

The Military Reserve isn't that scary, the signs surrounding it show whether or not there's any live firing forecast for the day. A lot of local fishos sneak in there from the western end with the hope of a huge bass or Mary River cod. they will escort you out if they find you but just claim ignorance of the law and you should be fine.

Whatever you do, don't mention yowies to them. It's pretty well-known within the local folklore that the whole military area was set up as a reserve for the yowies, and not for military purposes.
