Southern Illinoisfag here. Woke up to find the dog barking at a 10 point buck on the property with a broken leg suffering pretty badly. I live in the country. Without thinking twice I grabbed my 30-06 to put it down. Shot it in the head from about 20 yards. It's dead, and my dad called it in to the DNR for me.
