So a few weeks back I was solo camping illegally up in the mountains in a wildlife preserve. Really challenging terrain, beautiful old growth, but I got turned around and could not for the life of me find base camp.

I had powerbars and some granola in my bag but I ran out of water pretty quickly. The weather's nice so it wasn't as agonizing as I anticipated to sleep with just the spare roll from my bag, using the bag itself as a pillow. I had my cell and was giving consideration to calling for help but since this was just day 2 I put it off.

I woke up really early, cold and needing to pee. I thought back on the whole bear gryllis "drink your pee" thing but couldn't bring myself to do it. I think the combination of dehydration and exertion is what caused me to begin to hallucinate.

The forest floor began to move. Like a grassy carpet sliding over the dirt. The bark on trees began to undulate and slide over the trunk itself. I became aware of the forest as a colony creature, with a distributed intelligence which, the moment I noticed it, also noticed me and began to speak to me.
