>>1174242There is no actual research on Gore-Tex that is published, the best you will find is some blogger testing it. Gore does a ton of testing but hides the results, because basically it would prove that it is an overpriced meme. The entire outdoors hates Gore passionately, but have to tolerate them because the name has stuck with consumers, and consumers demand Gore-Tex.
Personal insights: good for skiing or being out in the snow. Bad for hiking, they will not keep you dry, you will sweat, and you will be uncomfortable. Its a water resistant layer, no layer is both waterproof or breathable. Use a poncho.
Also look for cheaper hardshells without the black diamond tag, same performance save yourself a couple hundred bucks.
