You find out YEARS later that all the scholarships, schools, businesses, neighbors, etc have been setup, given loans/grant, etc by shell companies with shell companies who work for oil & gas. suddenly, you realize all the mineral rights for everyone who owns property is owned by someone else and was owned by someone else 2 generations ago.
These companies are massive, interconnected, and take a very long view of things. Plans are 50-100 years long. You really can't hope to win against something that has been in place and you are fully part of since before you were even born. It is the very definition of, "insidious".
It isn't a defeatist attitude, it is merely the truth. If you want to usurp these types of groups, you'll need to think that far ahead with your plans. Meaning, your grandkids will be the ones who can finally stop such things, but by then it may be far too late and there's nothing to actually stop.
