>>1175293I went "camping" with cub scouts and ymca summer camps and did a lot of fishing growing up. But that was about it. After college, I got into guns and the whole "survivalist" thing. I remember Discovery channel shows, hickok45 an nutnfancy being major influences. I build a "bug-out-bag," and finally went solo camping with it in a very remote area. Was an eye opening experience to me.... hearing loons and barred owls for the first time and know I was miles and miles from the nearest person, and shivering most the night in my shitty sleeping bag on the bare ground. I've come a long way since then (8 years ago). Now have hiked and paddled hundreds of miles, refined my camping pack, given up on the juvenile "survivalist" culture, and gotten very into ice fishing, fly fishing, and small game hunting. I still own a "B.O.B" of sorts....it's just the pack I always keep in my truck year round for whatever I am doing at the time, camping, hunting, fishing, etc. It always has the basic and seasonal essentials.
