>>1176337For bears, you better get a big ass gun or your just going to piss it off.
Brown bears usually won't attack unless they feel threatened. Do not get between one and its cubs. Back up slowly, stand your ground if it charges and hope its a bluff.
Black bears might eat you, especially when they wake up from hybernation. DO NOT PLAY DEAD. Its a rare occurance, their small and will usually fill up on easier prey.
Polar bears will fucking eat you even if they just want a snack. These things are not cute and cuddly. DO NOT PLAY DEAD. Theres really not much you can do, back away slowly and hope it just ate.
If you do bring a gun, do noy use it unless a bear is in the process of charging or mauling you. You will probably just make things worse.
Bear spray can work, just don't stand around and think its going to run away. You blinded it, use that chance to gtfo.
Get a bag for your food, smell proof if you can afford it, and hang it from a tree. I think regulations are 30 feet from your camp site 10 feet off the ground 1 foot off the branch and 1 foot from the trunk. These may be low so go more if possible.
A bear can is even better, and mandatory in some forests. Just tie it to a tree or something might steal it.
I don't know much about cats, but their like the ghosts in mario. They won't attack if your looking at them. I imagine most guns would be fine if your quick enough.
