Favorite tent? Haven't used much besides some tarps and bivvies. Wanted some recommendations to buy.

do you realize that's everything from 0°-100°, retard?

but my advice is free standing so you don't have to worry about staking it in 2" of coarse sand on top of an impenetrable granite slab, and 2p>1p for comfort and gear storage when alone, plus it has versatility if you decide to bring someone else, and the weight penalty is worth it.

Love them all. Don't use the stealth 1 much these days as the solomid and hexamid have taken it's place. The shangrila 3 only really gets used when camping with others, and the tarp is mostly for playing around on little one nighters in the woods.

I picked up a 2 person fly creek on craigslist NIB for $150, retail is above $400. Less than 2 lbs iirc. If you have time to shop around I'd recommend Craigslist, if you're willing to go above budget I'd recommend a big Agnes from REI.

I was thinking of a 2p tent for extra comfort for storage. Moderate weight to light, I won't die if it's 1 ounce too heavily, something like 1.5-5.5 lb, not anything like 9 or 12 lbs. But I do want something for 4 seasons since winters do get pretty cold. Budget, I can be fine spending a bit if I know it's good but nothing like crazy like 1k.

winter rated tents are designed to hold up to high winds and not collapse under the weight of snow, more than they are to be significantly warmer than 3 season tents. winter warmth is going to primarily come from your bag and pad, not your tent.

Hmm, ok. Well maybe I can get 1 for 3 season and 1 for winter. What kind of winter tent do you recommend? I don't expect to be buried under 6 ft of snow but high winds are something I would be thinking about.

If you are only expecting to handle moderate snow loads any decent pyramid shelter will do. They shed wind like a boss. MLD's solomid is a great one to look at. Their silnylon version is a great price IMO.

Only draw back is it's not free standing which isn't an issue in 95% of the world, 100% if you're creative.

Been looking at getting the Motrail, but have concerns about some things I've read where people mention that rain can run off the sides, onto the mesh and then inside the tent. What have you experienced with that in yours?

For a 1 man tent it's huge. Almost twice as wide as a sleeping pad. I also own a marmot 1 man that was 100 dollars more and 1.5 lbs heavier, but free standing, which I also really like, but is significantly smaller. Sorry it's not your 12 man ozark trail nylon cabin from Wal-Mart.

I have a north face rock 22. Ive had it years, and it is discontinued now, but im sure theres and equivalent north face makes now. It is the best tent I've ever owned. Highly recommend.

I have an Alps Aries 2 for backpacking/short trips and a Big Agnes something or other with lights on the inside for car camping with the lady and 2 dogs. Love em both, looking at expanding my collection for car camping. Most likely going full on pleb and getting a Coleman. I'm not proud of that, but they have decent tents with everything we want for under $200.

Tried and true for 4 fucking decades. It is a 3-season tent, but that really doesn't matter since you shouldn't rely on the tent to keep you warm when winter camping.
