It's just that LARPing in particular attracts some of the most annoying people.
Go to any life-sized V:tM-type game and you will find that one dude who wears his vampire teeth outside of the game and just takes game sessions as an excuse to go all out and thinks that makes it okay to go and actually bite people's neck from behind, shit like that.
Go to a fantasy-based LARP in "the woods" (or alternately the local park) and you will find that one guy who takes everything far too seriously despite being shit at it, who will scoff at the "lazy ones" come in generic renaissance-fair-ish leather and felt outfits because the markings on his cardboard armor are context-accurate, or if there is any form of swordfighting involve will accuse anyone who knows a bit about sword of cheating because "fighting doesn't work like that in muh fantasy setting". If you've tried you probably see the type.
there is nothing wrong with the idea of costumed events or life-sized games. Which is why stuff like historical reenactments, murder parties and other things can go perfectly well. It's just that LARPing oftens attracts the most annoying people.
