>>1183626That's the thing, there's a lot of things you can do that are more efficient than doing bushcraft because we get to choose everything we take with us wether it be car camping, hiking, or walking around a homestead. survival Russia has a good quote on this and that's "there's a lot of youtubers who will teach what you can do without and for how long but not what you should carry and never be parted with"
Bushcraft I think as an element of outdoorsmanship applied correctly simply allows you to be creative and expressive, I don't think it's meant to be taken as a face value "survival" thing but you're right, a lot of people will watch a video and think a knife is all you need to survive in the woods because it's a Gucci knife and someone with a video camera in the woods said so.
Using the nice gear is good but using the right gear that is right for you and your needs is better, because you get every choice in what you bring so why be without.
All in all bushcraft serves only as a a all encompassing term that doesn't really mean anything, because in reality it's a combination of broad skills from different schools like knot tying, whittling, horticultural identification, understanding environment and available resources and also the correct use of application of tools in an environment, all useful skills, are probably more profitable for youtubers than just being prepared, bringing what you need, avoiding a survival situation and having a jolly old time Outdoors.
