i want to give hammocks a go, tried one a few weeks back and decided i like them better then mats, would i be fine with just pic related or should i get something like this:

Tribe Provisions hammocks are pretty sweet, can have one from Amazon for just under $20.

I personally have a Madera single and a Koalatree single hammock, very happy with both. Super comfy.

I have a Madera share code for %/$ off their hammocks and such if anyone is interested in it as well. I will be honest, I get a small commission if anyone uses it, but the company plants 2 trees in Africa for every hammock purchased.

If you've never used one then Hennessy is a good place to start. They do a package deal on hammock with integrated net, tarp, straps/ropes. Everything you need to hang in one package.
A side note: you'll end up ditching the rope suspension for dutchware or similar to save time and I recommend the zip version over the bottom entry. The bug net is permanently attached and the zip version allows you to flip it over the ridgeline if you dont need it.
I have a Hennessy, a warbonnet xlc, a dutch, and an eno double nest. Use them all for different settings but if I had to pick one to start out it would be the Hennessy

Get an ENO. I’ve had the same one for 4-5 years now. They’re solid hammocks.

For plebs maybe, they are overpriced by several times what they are actually worth and you can get a comparable parachute ripstop hammock by any million off brand amazon sellers for ~20$

I've done many hammocks myself. It's pretty easy, you just learn to do the knot and repeat it a million times. I just started doing it to cope with anxiety, I needed some autistic thing like this to do.
The good thing is that you can use a VERY thin thread and it will still hold up your weight, because the "resistance" of your hammock is the sum all the threads on either side together, which amounts to a big ass rope.
Using thin threads leaves you with a lightweight hammock that you can fit un your pocket. Actually the rope to hang it from the trees takes more space than the hammocks itself.
And of course you make it your size exactly.

I usually get 1mm thick thread because that's what they have at the store. Started with way thicker. I think it can be done with way thinner thou.

Mesh hammocks are fine for lounging in, but I wouldn't want to take one camping and use it for sleeping. Waffle print sucks. hello guys. i'm doing my first trip to tasmania next week. i'm riding my bicycle through the east coast and will maybe camp around twice in a park and maybe once wild. rn i have a hammock and suspension, tarp, bugnet. i'm wondering if i'll need a sleeping bag? weather doesn't go lower than 10C. I received a hammock as a gift from some co-workers once.

I will never go back to camping without it, it's fantastic for all the reasons mentioned above.

Slip right in with your sleeping bag and you are good to go. Never tried it during wintertime, but I imagine you would really appreciate some isolation from below when its cold outside.
